Church Building Project
Purpose
The vicar and the members of the St. Thomas Indian Orthodox Church,
Greater Washington respectfully seek your prayers and financial support
for building a place of worship. Our plan is to construct a church building
and a community center. The facility will be built on 1.2 acres of commercial
zoned land owned by the Church, located at 13505 New Hampshire Avenue,
Silver Spring, Maryland, just fifteen miles north of the nation's capital.
Our Mission
Consistent with that of our mother Church, the mission of St. Thomas
Indian Orthodox Church is to conduct liturgical services, preach the
Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Holy Scriptures, the Faith, Doctrines and
Teachings of The Malankara Orthodox Church of India and to serve the
area community that we belong to. A place of worship is essential to
fulfill this mission.
Progress and Timeline
The congregation acquired 1.2 acres of land, zoned for a church
facility. The entrance to the land has been completed. It is anticipated
that the Church will be able to obtain the building permit from Montgomery
county by May 2007. The Church expects to begin the building construction
by May 2007 and complete the project by the December 2007. Click here for construction pictures
